I. The Distinguished Knight in Shining Armor Alumni Award :
Murial Hand, June ‘50
- “Dedication, true spirit, ideal character, service to alumni association, ever during her school year. She is a great Leader!!”
Shannon Reeves
- “Shannon has made a significant impact at Castlemont and in Oakland. After graduating from Grambling, Shannon came back to serve as President of the Oakland NAACP chapter where he brought new energy and an exponential increase in membership to the chapter. He is committed to the Castle. It was not a surprise that he announced his candidacy for Oakland Mayor in the Castlemont library. He then served on the California Republican Party where he educated many Republicans of the plight of urban communities.”
Ms. Gerry Laws, Former Teacher
- “Founder of Girls Block C . . . which has been meeting annually since the late 30s, Mrs. Laws was instrumental in providing activities and support for female student athletes at Castlemont when there were few opportunities until the law required schools to have programs for female students.” “Mrs. Laws was wonderful. She taught us things that you can't put into words because she made them a part of our lives and they just melted into us. She had several teachers who were under her and they all seemed to love her too. Strict? Oh yes! Fair? Oh yes. Many other things come to mind and they might sound corny, but I really think she devoted herself to us kids. At the Block C luncheons, she knew each of us by our maiden names and our married names and even remembered a few little things about each one of us.”
Greg Hickey, ‘56
- “Greg is one of the most dedicated, humble Knight I’ve ever met. He has the ability to make things happen. His dedication to the Castle is evident. His ‘Old School’ picnics draw hundreds of alumni. He has helped form the alumni association. Without him, it would be hard for the alumni association to achieve what it has achieved. He is an inspiration.”
